FEBRUARY WORKSHOP
If you are reading this, you seem to have survived the festivities and the transition into the new year. Congratulations and a very snappy new year to you.
I think this may just be a good moment to let it be known that I am hosting a lovely little photography workshop this February, the 22nd. This workshop is a chance for a small group of people (6 participants) to delve deeply into photography with me, specifically the type of unconstrained nude portraiture that I love so much.
I have an unwavering passion for making honest, evocative, timeless and at times somewhat raw nude portraits and I would love to share my experience and insights with those who share similar passions. I am by no means a teacher but a completely self-taught photographer with a whole lot of experience, know-how and love for this medium. Expect this workshop to be very informal and conversational in approach and tone. This is not so much for those that are into endless technical photography geekery but it is rather a chance to explore and practice the processes and decision making that tends to result in strong, compelling images. I will freely share my own practices, processes and approach but the focus will ultimately be in helping you find, or hone, your own personal approach.
I am running this workshop with my partner in crime who happens to also be an exquisite model, Silas (@neptunesgoddaughter). As someone who endeavours to make imagery that is rather intimate, I am of the view that the voices of the people we capture are incredibly important and so Silas will not merely model for us but will be an integral, important part of the conversation.
Even though I personally happen to work with old analogue cameras, this workshop is in no way reserved for those that share that particular mad inclination. It is open to anyone who harbours a love for creating photographs of other humans, no matter what cameras you use.
The following is not so much a schedule but a list of things you can very much expect to happen during our day:
We'll have conversations around how to hone a personal approach to one's photography. What kind of photography exactly do you want to create? How does one best go from one's original vision and intent to a strong body of work?
The most important part of the workshop consists, of course, of photography itself. There will be three distinct segments during which you'll be photographing Silas in different locations, indoors and outdoors, in natural light and continuous studio lighting.
How best to work with the people we photograph in order to achieve desired results. Conversations around how to network with, select and book models. Discussions around behaviour, boundaries, ethics and direction during shoots.
If you know that you want to participate in this, do reach out as soon as possible so you can reserve your place. First come, first served. Also, if you wish, do let me know when you book which specific aspects you might be particularly interested in. This will allow us to shape the workshop somewhat to the interests of the participants on the day.
Where and when? This workshop will be held in a private abode in Belvedere, from 10am to 5pm. Whilst this is located in the deep suburbs of SE London, it is easily accessible by both private and public transport. The house is a short bus drive from Abbey Wood station (Elizabeth Line) or a short walk from Belvedere train station (South Eastern). Whilst parking on Saturdays is a little more scarce, you should be able to park very nearby, if not right outside.
What does it cost? £300. If you subscribe to my Patreon, even for just a month, you get a 10% discount. Lunch will be provided
If you want to book your place or have any enquiries, please drop me a line through the form on the contact page.
